MamelodiMasscre is an outreach community project championed by Memelodi Community, SANCO and DITSONG: Museums of South Africa(DMSA) as a partner. The event is aimed at commemorating the 31st anniversary of the 13 victims killed on 21 November 1985.
On this day 31 years ago the Mamelodi residents embarked on a protest to march against which amongst other included, high rents, banning of funerals, in the township, and the presence of the then SANDF and police in the township which was harassing the residents. Subsequently, thirteen residents were shot and killed and over a hundred injured.
Exhibition opens on Friday 31 March 2017- October 2017 and viewing hours are Monday to Fridays 8:00 to 16:00
